See Mark Strong thrill on stage with Oedipus play tickets

Internationally acclaimed actors Mark Strong and Lesley Manville take on one of the greatest tragedies to grace the stage in Oedipus at Wyndham’s Theatre. Sophocles’ Greek epic is reimagined for the modern age by visionary director Robert Icke (The Doctor) in this heart-thumping production, which wowed audiences at Internationaal Theatre Amsterdam and the Edinburgh Festival. It now comes to the West End for a strictly limited season, so book your tickets early to witness this breathtaking version of a timeless story.

On election night, the polls predict a landslide victory, and everything is about to change. How will Oedipus react when he is confronted with a disquieting prophecy?

In this new version, the Oedipus play is reimagined as a tense political thriller, with the central character transformed into a political heavyweight waiting for the results of a hard-fought election. As truth and deception unravel in a shocking series of events, Oedipus must face the tragic consequences.

Mark Strong stars as Oedipus, following his Olivier Award-winning role in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge (2014), The Red Barn (2016) and screen roles in Kingsman: The Secret Service. He is joined by BAFTA and Oscar-nominated actress Lesley Manville as Jocasta, who is best known for The Crown and Phantom Thread. She won an Olivier Award in 2014 for Ghosts

Director Robert Icke’s edge-of-your-seat adaptation premiered in the Netherlands, in a Dutch-language production by the Internationaal Theater Amsterdam company. With an exciting, innovative format, audiences were drawn into the real-time storytelling as a clock counted down to the shocking finale. Icke is a master at reinvigorating classic plays for the 21st century, and the Oedipus play follows the revelatory Oresteia, The Doctor with Juliet Stevenson and Hamlet with Andrew Scott.

The secrets of the past burst into the future in this gripping show, which has at its beating heart two powerhouse performers. Don’t miss this English-language premiere of Icke’s Oedipus as it hits the West End this autumn.
