Olivier Award winner Juliet Stevenson gives a tour de force performance in The Doctor. The sell-out Almeida production will begin its West End transfer at the Duke of York’s Theatre for a limited run, opening in April 2020.
First, do no harm. On an ordinary day, at a private hospital, a young woman fights for her life. A priest arrives to save her soul. Her doctor refuses him entry. Freely adapted from Arthur Schnitzler’s Professor Bernhardi, The Doctor is a tale of a divisive times, a divided nation, and a society taking sides.
Juliet Stevenson (Mary Stuart, Hamlet, Truly, Madly, Deeply) is a darling of stage and screen, having been nominated for a slew of Oliviers and BAFTAs. Robert Icke, Associate Director at the Almeida with recent successes including Hamlet and Mary Stuart – both starring Stevenson – directs.
Having been described as “one of the peaks of the theatrical year”, don’t miss The Doctor in its West End transfer, opening at the Duke of York’s Theatre on 20th April 2020.
