Olivier Award winner Juliet Stevenson gives a tour de force performance in The Doctor. The sell-out Almeida production makes its long-awaited West End debut at the Duke of York’s Theatre for a limited run.

First, do no harm. On an ordinary day, at a private hospital, a young woman fights for her life. A priest arrives to save her soul. Her doctor refuses him entry. Freely adapted from Arthur Schnitzler’s Professor Bernhardi, The Doctor is a tale of a divisive time, a divided nation, and a society taking sides.

Juliet Stevenson (Mary Stuart, Hamlet, Truly, Madly, Deeply) is a darling of stage and screen, having been nominated for a slew of Oliviers and BAFTAs. Jamie Parker (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child) and Chris Colquhoun (Mary Stuart) will also join the cast for the West End run, alongside Shelley Conn, Anni Domingo, Liv Hill, and Millicent Wong. Mariah Louca, Daniel Rabin, Joy Richardson, Naomi Wirthner, and drummer Hannah Ledwidge will return to the show.

Robert Icke, Associate Director at the Almeida with recent successes including Hamlet and Mary Stuart – both starring Stevenson – directs.

Having been described as “one of the peaks of the theatrical year”, don’t miss The Doctor in its West End transfer, opening at the Duke of York’s Theatre.
