Tim Crouch’s “captivating, thought-provoking trip through grief” (A Youngish Perspective), An Oak Tree play is heading to The Other Palace this autumn as part of a season of work that first premiered at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Since its debut over a decade ago, the genre-defying production has been staged in more than 19 countries.
An Oak Tree is a two-hander play that centres on a grieving father and his face-to-face encounter with the man responsible when the father volunteers for the driver’s hypnotist act. Every night, a different actor joins Tim Crouch on the stage, but they only see the script for the first time at the beginning of the performance.
The play made its premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2005, where it was a sell-out success and received critical acclaim. It has since toured across the world and broken box office records. It was last staged at the Young Vic in 2025 as part of its 20th anniversary. Now it heads to The Other Palace as part of a season of work presented by Francesca Moody Productions.
The confirmed An Oak Tree play guest performers include Rosalie Craig (9 October), Clare Perkins (13 October), Tom Mothersdale (14 October), Gemma Whelan (15 October), Bessie Carter (16 October), Sacha Dhawan (23 October), Hamned Animashaun (29 October) and George Fouracres (10 November).
An Oak Tree is directed by Tim Crouch, Karl James and Andy Smith. The show features music by Pete Gill and Simon Crane is on piano.
