A sung-through musical based on the last days of Jesus’s life, the Jesus Christ Superstar musical is told through the eyes of Judas. Loosely based on the Gospels and their accounts of The Passion, it portrays the growing tension between the Romans and the Disciples. Adapted into a Golden Globe-nominated film in 1973, a couple of years after its stage debut on Broadway in 1971, it remains as one of the greatest rock musicals ever created, and audiences love it!
The show is directed by the Olivier Award winner Tim Sheader, who is restaging the 5-star production from Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre for the West End. His other credits include Little Shop of Horrors and To Kill A Mockingbird. He is joined by choreographer Drew McOnie and Tony winner Tom Scutt for this production.
Sam Ryder makes his stage debut as Jesus. Rising to fame after representing the United Kingdom at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022, where he placed second, he has become a favourite with people across the country.
