Patrick Marber directs a star cast in the West End premiere of David Ives’ dark comedy Venus in Fur. Originally premiering at the Classic Stage Company in 2010, before transferring to Broadway in 2011, Venus in Fur is the smash-hit new production playing at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, starring Game of Thrones’ Natalie Dormer and David Oakes.
Adapted into a film by Roman Polanski in 2012, Venus in Fur follows the enigmatic, but struggling, actress Vanda Jordan, who appears unannounced to audition for the leading role in director Thomas Novachek’s new production. Determined to land the role, despite not realising she may be wrong for the part, Vanda takes it on herself to charm the director. When a night in downtown Manhattan ensues, the pair’s meeting becomes a dangerously seductive dance.
Natalie Dormer stars as Vanda Jordan, after making her professional stage debut in 2010 in the Young Vic’s Sweet Nothings, followed by their 2012 production of After Miss Julie. Dormer is best known for her multiple screen roles in popular HBO series Game of Thrones and the BBC’s The Tudors, with feature films including Casanova, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay and The Riot Club.
David Oakes’ plays Thomas Novachek, with stage credits including Shakespeare in Love at the Noel Coward Theatre, The Trial of Macbeth and Pride and Prejudice. Screen appearances include Victoria, The Borgias and The Pillars of the Earth.
Directed by Patrick Marber, who most recently had success with Travesties and Don Juan in Soho, Venus in Fur features design by Rob Howell and lighting design by Hugh Vanstone. Running for a limited nine week season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, Venus in Fur plays from October 17th to December 9th 2017, with previews beginning October 6th 2017.
Venus in Fur is suitable for those aged 15 and up.
