Family epic The Lehman Trilogy returns to London for a highly-anticipated West End season, following a smash-hit, Tony Award-winning run on Broadway. The National Theatre’s acclaimed production is at the Gillian Lynne Theatre for a strictly limited season in 2023.

The Lehman Trilogy is the story of the Lehman Brothers company’s domination in the financial world and its staggering fall which triggered the 2008 financial crisis. Opening in 1844 as a man disembarks a ship from Bavaria to New York, this epic play follows three brothers, their sons and their grandsons as they build an empire and ultimately suffer a devastating fall from power which reverberated around the world.

Interweaving decades of one family’s history across three acts, Italian writer Stefano Massini’s play first ran in London at the National Theatre, directed by Olivier Award winner Sam Mendes (Screen: American Beauty, Skyfall; Stage: The Ferryman) and adapted by Ben Power.

The production later transferred to the West End and Broadway, where it was nominated for eight Tony Awards and won five, including Best Play.

Casting for the West End is Michael Balogun (Death of England – Delroy) as Emanuel Lehman, Hadley Fraser (City of Angels) as Mayer Lehman, and Nigel Lindsay (Woman In Mind) as Henry Lehman. The three actors will also play various generations of the same family.

The Lehman Trilogy features set design by Es Devlin, costume design by Katrina Lindsay, video by Luke Halls, lighting by Jon Clark, composition and sound by Nick Powell and Dominic Bilkey, music direction by Candida Caldicot and movement by Polly Bennett. The West End revival is directed by Zoé Ford Burnett, who has worked as Associate Director for the play during previous runs.

Don’t miss the story of a family who changed the world when it makes a triumphant return to London. The Lehman Trilogy is at the Gillian Lynne Theatre until 20 May 2023.
