Follow the yellow brick road to the Gillian Lynne Theatre this Summer as Andrew Lloyd Webber’s The Wizard of Oz musical returns to London after a hotly anticipated run at the Palladium. The reimagined musical brings the classic screen-to-stage adaptation to the modern world. The loved story heads back to the theatre in a screen-to-stage adaptation, taking a modern twist on the timeless tale. Dorothy, a young girl from Kansas, gets swept away in a tornado to a magical land. In order to head back home, she must find the Wizard of Oz. Whilst following the yellow brick road, Dorothy bumps into the Tin Man, The Scarecrow and The Cowardly Lion. After a record-breaking tour and a run at the Palladium, the musical is heading back to London for a limited run this Summer. We recommend grabbing tickets in advance to avoid any disappointment.
The cast is star-studded and includes Aston Merrygold (JLS) as The Tinman, The Vivienne (Ru Paul’s Drag Race) as The Wicked Witch of the West and Aviva Tulley (The Book of Mormon) as Dorothy. Joining them will be Benjamin Yates (Emmerdale, Jersey Boys, School of Rock) as The Scarecrow, Nic Greenshields (Les Miserables, Guys and Dolls) as The Cowardly Lion and Abigail Matthews (Bleak Expectations) as Toto.
The musical is directed by Nikolai Foster (Billy Elliot the Musical, Grease), and having created many of the UK’s major productions, The Wizard of Oz musical is no exception. The show features original music by Harold Arlen and original lyrics by E. Y. Harburg with additional music and adaptation by Andrew Lloyd Webber (Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Bad Cinderella).
