Martin Shaw and Jenny Seagrove will lead a revival of A. R. Gurney’s tender, tragi-comedy Love Letters at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from May 2021.

Sharing strong parallels with our current times, A. R. Gurney’s play follows two characters physically separated but who connect on an intellectual and emotional level as romance blossoms over years of shared correspondence.

Love Letters details the lives of Andrew Makepeace Ladd III and Melissa Gardner over half a century following a chance encounter at Gardner’s birthday party. A thank you note turns into a lifelong friendship as the couple share nostalgic memories, bittersweet moments and a close-knit bond.

Directed by Roy Marsden, the play transfers to the Theatre Royal Haymarket following a successful week-long, socially-distanced run at Theatre Royal Windsor.

Martin Shaw is best known for his lead roles in classic television series Judge John Deed and Inspector George Gently. He was most recently seen in the West End in a revival of Harold Brighouse’s Hobson’s Choice in 2016

Jenny Seagrove has worked extensively with Shaw, including on Judge John Deed and on stage in Vertigo and The Country Girl. Seagrove returned to the West End in the stage adaptation of The Exorcist in 2017.

This warm, nostalgic play mirrors the modern world as we search for new ways to communicate whilst the coronavirus pandemic keeps us physically apart. Grab your tickets to see two acclaimed actors in this socially-distanced production of Love Letters
